Gold& Robins, P.C. is a defense-oriented, civil litigation firm, with extensive experience in successfully defending a wide variety of complex claims for both carrier-insured and self-insured clients. 

• Appellate Practice
  We have extensive experience in the state as well as federal appellate courts in the Third Circuit, Pennsylvania and New Jersey, as well as federal district and appellate courts throughout the United States.  In addition to routinely handling the appeals phase of our own litigation, we are pleased to serve as appellate counsel, on the brief, the argument or both, for cases not originating in our offices.  Over the years, our attorneys have handled hundreds of appeals, a substantial portion of which have come to us specifically for the appeal.  We are equipped to handle the prosecution or defense of your appeal in whatever jurisdiction it may lie. 
   
• Civil Rights Litigation
  A large portion of our practice is devoted to the defense of claims against individuals, entities and corporations brought under federal civil rights litigation, through 42 U.S.C. §1983, et seq.  Successful defense of claims under federal civil rights statutes requires a particularized understanding and experience of the statutes and case law which has developed in this complex arena over the years.
   
• Employment Law
  We are experienced in representing insureds and self-insured throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey and in the Third Circuit, in all manner of employment-related matters.  We represent employers in the defense of discharge-related claims, discrimination claims, and the full contingent of federal and state employment claims, including claims of sex- and race-based discrimination, sexual harassment, hostile work environment and disability-related discrimination, as well as breach of employment contract, defamation and related claims, as well as those brought before the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission.  We also handle the defense of workers compensation claims on behalf of employers.
   
• Directors & Officers Liability
  In conjunction with the defense of employers and employment-related claims, we also provide expertise in the related sub-specialty of claims against corporate directors and officers.  When a claimant seeks to hold officers or directors of a corporate entity personally liable for actions taken in their official capacity, particularized care must be taken to address the specialized needs of the individuals.
   
• National Litigation Counsel
  We are also available, and have extensive experience, as national litigation counsel in the supervision and monitoring of employment and civil rights-related litigation throughout the United States.  A typical arrangement involves the supervision of cases placed with local counsel around the U.S. on behalf of nationally-positioned companies.  With local counsel as primary litigation counsel, we act in a supervisory capacity, monitoring such matters, thus freeing in-house legal counsel, who may not be experienced in these areas, to deal with business matter.  We also typically take an active role in both preliminary and dispositive motions phases.
   
• Medical Malpractice/Professional Liability Defense
  The roots of our practice lie in the defense of professional mapractice claims, including medical, psychiatric and podiatric, as well as the defense of prosecutors, police and municipal law enforcement authorities from claims of prosecutorial misconduct and malicious prosecution.
   
• Prison Medical/Civil Rights Defense
  For over 15 years, our attorneys have successfully defended medical service providers and personnel against a wide variety of claims brought by prison inmates in Pennsylvania and New Jersey alleging medical-based and related civil rights claims.  For more detailed information, see our page on Prison Medical Defense.
   
• Products Liability
  From the basic to the complex, we have experience in the defense of all types of manufacturers and retailers, in a variety of products liability suits, including those involving allegations of negligence, strict liability, and breach of warranty and contract.  Alan Gold also has broad experience in the defense of mass tort litigation, including the long-standing breast implant and DES actions.
   
• Insurance Coverage Opinions & Litigation
  We routinely provide coverage opinions to a variety of carriers, and provide defense where a coverage decision leads to litigation.  Alan Gold and Tanya Sweet have extensive experience litigating complex insurance coverage claims, including claims involving comprehensive general liability policies and excess coverage policies, in Pennsylvania state and federal courts, for both insurers and and insured.  Counseling as to the most appropriate types of insurance policies to avoid coverage problems is also available.  Many claims have been avoided with their prudent pre-litigation counseling.
